Work Inside an ECAHLI Node

Not Just a Job.
A Complete Life.

Employment in an ECAHLI node is not a conventional job. It is an integrated economic role inside a governed, self-sustaining community where your work directly sustains the same community you live in — and where the benefits of that work extend far beyond a monthly salary.

Every permanent role is supported by structured on-the-job training, a clear progression pathway, and the full benefit package that comes with Active Residency — housing, healthcare, meals, education for your children, and a built-in retirement plan. Your salary is real. Your security is structural.

The One-Line Definition

Work in an ECAHLI node means contributing to a community you live in, training in skills that are genuinely useful, and building a career path — all inside one place you can call home.

01
Paid at a Fair Wage — From Day One
All permanent roles in ECAHLI nodes are paid at a minimum of 2.5× the statutory minimum wage for that jurisdiction. In the Kisumu base case, this means every employee earns meaningfully more than the national floor — fully costed in the financial model and required by DFI labour standards.
02
On-the-Job Training as Standard
Every entry-level role includes structured on-the-job training from the start. You do not need to already be skilled to begin. The ECAHLI model is designed to take people at the beginning of a career path and develop them into operators, supervisors, and specialists — inside the same node.
03
Skills in New and Emerging Industries
Roles span regenerative agriculture, solar and microgrid systems, circular manufacturing, eco-construction, agro-processing, healthcare support, and digital services. These are skills with growing global demand — built through real work experience, not classroom-only training.
04
A Pathway, Not a Dead End
Every ECAHLI role sits inside a progression framework: Helper → Operator → Supervisor → Manager. Performance, learning, and contribution open room for advancement, specialisation, and leadership — all within the community you already live in.
Job Families Across the Node

Eight Domains.
Real Roles. Real Skills.

Every ECAHLI node creates employment across eight professional domains — from land and food systems to digital services and healthcare. Each role comes with a defined training pathway, clear responsibilities, and the opportunity to grow within the community.

🌾
Regenerative Agriculture & Land

Field and land management roles working across irrigated crop zones, agroforestry corridors, soil health monitoring, and seed bank operations. The work is practical, outdoor, and ecologically grounded — producing food for the community and for local markets.

  • Regenerative farming and soil health practices
  • Irrigation systems and ecological monitoring
  • Agroforestry management and planting
  • Seed bank operations and biodiversity records
🏭
Food Processing & Cold Chain

Post-harvest processing, quality control, packaging, and cold-chain logistics. This zone connects farm production to the market — ensuring that what the node grows is processed, stored, and distributed safely and profitably.

  • Food safety standards and HACCP basics
  • Processing equipment operation and maintenance
  • Warehouse management and stock systems
  • Cold chain logistics and distribution coordination
☀️
Energy & Infrastructure

Solar technician and microgrid operator roles maintaining the node's renewable energy systems, water infrastructure, and built environment. Preventive maintenance, system monitoring, and rapid fault response keep the whole community running.

  • Solar PV installation and system monitoring
  • Microgrid and battery storage operations
  • Water systems and sanitation maintenance
  • Preventive maintenance scheduling and reporting
🏗️
Construction & Natural Building

Trades, labour, carpentry, and specialist natural building roles across hempcrete, rammed earth, and low-carbon construction systems. During node build-out phases, construction employment at Kisumu reaches approximately 250 workers at peak — prioritising local County recruitment.

  • Low-carbon and natural building techniques
  • Structural carpentry and finishing trades
  • Site safety, planning, and workflow
  • Quality control and green building standards
🏨
Hospitality & Eco-Tourism

Lodge operations, front-of-house, kitchen, housekeeping, event management, and trained eco-tourism guiding. The hospitality zone serves visiting researchers, investors, volunteers, and retreat guests — generating revenue and showcasing the node model to a global audience.

  • Hospitality standards and guest relations
  • Eco-guiding, interpretation, and facilitation
  • Kitchen operations and dietary standards
  • Event management and retreat hosting
🏥
Healthcare Support & Social Care

Clinic assistant, patient support, administration, and community health outreach roles inside the node's healthcare facility — which serves approximately 15,000 patients per year (Kisumu base case) across both the node and surrounding communities.

  • Basic clinical and patient support protocols
  • Medical record-keeping and administration
  • Community health outreach coordination
  • Supply management and facility support
🎓
Education, TVET & Training

Teaching assistant, skills facilitator, youth mentor, and TVET programme administration roles — directly supporting the 200 students per year who move through the node's training pipeline and into its employment roles. Educators are practitioners first.

  • Facilitation and participatory pedagogy
  • Curriculum support and programme coordination
  • Youth mentorship and pastoral support
  • Assessment, record-keeping, and reporting
💻
Digital & Remote Services

Co-working hub support, IT maintenance, data entry, and digital services for external clients. As connectivity infrastructure matures inside ECAHLI nodes, remote work opportunities for node residents — serving clients globally — become a meaningful supplementary income stream.

  • Digital literacy and productivity tools
  • Remote work platforms and data handling
  • IT support and co-working facility management
  • Client communication and service delivery

Role volumes, titles, and skill requirements are adapted to the specific node and its development phase. Numbers above reference the Kisumu base case unless otherwise noted.

ECAHLI education and TVET campus
TVET & On-the-Job Learning
200 students per year. Every graduate entering a job that already exists inside the same node.

The ECAHLI TVET campus is co-designed with the node's operational teams — so the curriculum maps directly to the actual roles available in agriculture, healthcare, construction, hospitality, and digital services. Students do not train for abstract qualifications. They train for specific jobs in a specific place that is ready for them when they graduate.

How Training Works: TVET + On-the-Job

Learn. Work.
Grow.

ECAHLI's training model combines a structured TVET campus with real site-based learning during node construction — so that by the time a node is operational, its first workforce cohort already has hands-on experience in the exact environment they will work in.

  • 📘
    Learn — TVET Campus
Curriculum co-designed with operational teams. Students learn theory and practice side-by-side, with a clear employment destination inside the same node. 200 students per year (Kisumu base case).
  • 🔧
    Work — On-Site Integration
During construction, TVET students integrate into supervised site learning — gaining real project experience alongside approximately 250 construction workers at peak (Kisumu base case), the majority recruited locally from Kisumu County.
  • 🌱
Grow — First Cohort Graduates into a Live Node
By Month 17 in the Kisumu model, the first TVET cohort graduates into a live, operating node ready to absorb them. Every entry-level role then follows a defined pathway: Helper → Operator → Supervisor → Manager.
  • 📈
    Advance — Performance Opens Progression
Learning does not end at graduation. Performance, contribution, and continued development open room for advancement and specialisation inside the node — without requiring migration or external retraining elsewhere.

What One Node
Creates.

These figures are drawn from the ECAHLI Kisumu flagship financial model and business plan. They represent what one fully operational ECAHLI node is designed to create across its employment ecosystem. Similar logic applies to every new node — adapted to local conditions and jurisdictional standards.

The Integration Logic

Your Work Feeds
Your Community.

In a conventional workplace, your work produces value for someone else's balance sheet. In an ECAHLI node, the food you grow feeds the clinic and the school. The solar system you maintain powers your own home. The training you deliver produces the next generation of node workers. The circular economy you operate turns waste into the materials that build the next phase of your community.

  • Farm workers grow food that feeds the clinic, the school canteen, and the restaurant
  • Solar technicians maintain energy that powers every home in the community
  • TVET facilitators train the people who will take over their own roles as they advance
  • Construction teams build the homes that house the workforce of the next phase
  • Circular economy workers convert waste into construction materials used on-site
  • Healthcare staff keep the workforce healthy and productive across every zone
  • Local procurement keeps income circulating inside the community economy

Fair Work & Benefits

Your Salary Is Real.
Your Security Is Structural.

ECAHLI's fair wage policy is not a marketing claim. It is fully costed in the financial model, required by the DFI labour standards the node is designed to meet, and embedded in every permanent employment contract from day one.

In the Kisumu base case, all permanent employees are paid at a minimum of 2.5× Kenya's statutory minimum wage. This is not the ceiling — it is the floor. As the node matures and revenue scales, compensation frameworks are designed to grow with it.

Kisumu Base Case · Fair Wage Policy

All 395 permanent direct jobs at Year 5 are paid at a minimum of 2.5× Kenya's statutory minimum wage — fully costed in the financial model and required under the DFI labour standards the Kisumu node is designed to comply with.

ECAHLI community and local economic participation
Local Economic Participation
The opportunity does not stop at the node's fence line.

ECAHLI nodes are anchors for the wider rural economy — creating formal supply agreements, market access, and income uplift for hundreds of smallholder farmers and local SMEs in the surrounding area. Working with ECAHLI does not require living inside the node.

Local Economic Participation

Beyond the Node.
Into the Wider Economy.

ECAHLI Nodes are designed to be economic anchors — not walled-off enclaves. In the Kisumu base case, the node formally engages 280 smallholder farmers and 45 SMEs by Year 5, creating structured economic participation for the surrounding community that does not require anyone to move inside the node.

280
Smallholder Farmers · Year 5

Formal supply agreements for organic produce, botanical inputs, and raw materials — providing predictable demand, fair pricing, and cold chain access to farmers who would otherwise depend on volatile spot markets. Kisumu base case.

45
SME Partners · Year 5

Local SMEs engaged as processors, traders, waste collectors, and service providers — linked formally into the node supply chain with consistent contracts, training support, and market access. Kisumu base case.

$1.2M
Community Purchasing / Year

Approximately USD 1.2 million per year in real local procurement at Year 5 in Kisumu — keeping income circulating inside the surrounding rural economy rather than exiting to distant suppliers. Kisumu base case.

+$1,740
Est. Per-Farmer Income Uplift

Estimated per-farmer income uplift of approximately USD 1,740 per year by Year 5, compared to a baseline of around USD 660 per year — a meaningful improvement driven by formal contracts and fair pricing. Kisumu base case, modelled metric.

Three Ways to Work with ECAHLI
You do not have to live inside the node to benefit from it.
As a Resident Employee

Join the node as an Active Resident — living inside the community, employed in a permanent role, and receiving the full ECAHLI benefit package including housing, meals, healthcare, and training.

As a Farmer or SME Partner

Supply goods or services to the node under a formal contract — without living inside it. Access predictable markets, fair pricing, cold chain, and ECAHLI-supported training for your operation.

Through Training & TVET

Participate in TVET programmes that open pathways into node employment, supply chain integration, or entrepreneurship — building skills that are directly applicable to the green economy being built around you.

Who ECAHLI Work Is Designed For

Mindset, Values
& What We Look For.

ECAHLI communities are built by and for people who are willing to build something real. The work is meaningful, the standards are high, and the community depends on the people inside it. Here is the kind of person this environment is designed for.

🔬
Innovators & Problem Solvers
Creative Inside Real-World Constraints

People who want to innovate and experiment — not in a lab, but in a live operating environment where the results matter immediately. Regenerative farming, circular systems, natural building, and clean energy all require creative thinking and practical ingenuity. If you want to solve real problems, ECAHLI is a place to do it.

📈
Learners & Growers
Willing to Learn, Grow, and Exceed Expectations

You do not need to arrive with every skill already developed. You need to be genuinely willing to learn, to take structured training seriously, and to grow into the role and beyond it. The ECAHLI model is designed to meet you where you are — and build a pathway from there.

🌍
Purpose-Driven Workers
Care About What Gets Built Here

People who care about sustainable change — not as an abstract idea but as a daily commitment. The work you do inside an ECAHLI node contributes to a community that the next generation will inherit. That matters. If it matters to you too, you belong here.

🤝
Stewards, Not Just Employees
Ready to Be Part of How This Community Is Governed

Active Residents are not just employees. They are community stewards with voting rights, participation in the Community Council, and a real voice in how the node is run. If you want more than a salary — if you want genuine ownership of the community you live and work in — this is designed for you.

"

We are not offering people jobs in the conventional sense. We are offering them a role in something larger — a community they help build, a system they help run, and a place they can genuinely call home. That is what dignified work inside an ECAHLI node actually means.
