Why This Movement Exists

The world stopped working for a lot of people at once.

Housing costs have outpaced wages for years. Automation is displacing work faster than new work replaces it — especially in rural regions. Land sits idle while people go without homes. Extractive agriculture and energy systems degrade the very ground rural communities depend on. And the local networks that used to carry families through hard times — the ones that looked after elders, children, and neighbours — have worn thin under all of it.

These aren't five separate crises needing five separate fixes. They're one system that stopped holding together. ECAHLI exists because enough people, in enough places, are done waiting for someone else to rebuild it — the Eco-Community Alternative Housing & Lifestyle Initiative, built to reconnect housing, work, food, energy and community in one place, starting in the land and the talent the conventional economy overlooked.
