ECAHLI is not a housing project. It is not a charity. It is not a social experiment. It is a fully engineered, financially viable, self-sustaining community system — designed to make poverty structurally impossible for every person who lives inside it.
"The world does not have a poverty problem. It has a systems problem. ECAHLI is the answer — a system designed from the ground up so that poverty becomes structurally impossible for the people inside it."
ECAHLI — the Eco-Community Alternative Housing Lifestyle Initiative — was founded on a single conviction: that the systems most people live inside are broken by design, and that the only real solution is to build something better from the ground up.
Every element of an ECAHLI community — housing, food, energy, healthcare, education, enterprise — is engineered to work together as one integrated system. When all of it functions together, the result is a community where every resident has everything they need to thrive, and every enterprise they run creates shared wealth that compounds over time.
ECAHLI was born from a simple observation: that the people who struggle most are not lacking in capability, motivation, or worth. They are lacking a system designed for them to succeed.
Founder Petrus Van Der Merwe spent years studying why communities fail — and what the rare ones that thrive have in common. The answer was always the same: integration. When housing, food, energy, work, health, and education all exist within the same system, the result is not just survival. It is flourishing.
ECAHLI was designed to replicate that integration deliberately and at scale — first in Brazil, then in Africa, and ultimately across every region of the world where land is dormant and human potential is untapped.
Today, ECAHLI represents a $78 million project with two active flagship developments, a documented replication model, and a community of residents, investors, and partners who believe that a better system is not just possible — it is already being built.
Every ECAHLI community is built around six fully integrated systems — each one essential, and each one designed to reinforce every other.
ECAHLI is not building one community. It is building a replicable system — documented, proven, and deployable in any region where land is dormant and human potential is untapped.
Revive abandoned land — turn economically dormant regions into thriving, productive communities
Replicate at scale — a documented model ready to deploy across Africa, South America, Asia, and beyond
Attract global investment — a financially viable model that returns value to investors and residents simultaneously
Restore human dignity — not through charity, but through co-ownership of a system designed for people to succeed
Two flagship developments — one in Brazil, one in Africa — are proving the ECAHLI model at full scale. These are not concepts. They are communities being built right now.
Our South American flagship — a self-sustaining community set across fertile land, combining advanced agricultural systems, 3D-printed hempcrete housing, and a full suite of community enterprises serving residents and the wider region.
Explore ECAHLI Brazil →Our African flagship — built to demonstrate that ECAHLI's model works across different climates, cultures, and economies. Featuring orchards, greenhouses, livestock, industry zones, and a vibrant, growing residential community.
Explore ECAHLI Africa →Life in an ECAHLI community is not just about what residents have. It is about who they become — through purposeful work, genuine connection, and shared ownership of something that grows with them.
ECAHLI is not a charity and it is not a utopia. It is a financially engineered community model with 10+ diversified revenue streams, a clear path to profitability, and a 30% EBITDA share distributed directly to residents.
By Year 10, each flagship community projects over $55M in annual revenue — with residents sharing in nearly $6M of that as their direct income from the community enterprises they help build and operate.

Whether you are an investor, a partner, a future resident, or someone who simply believes in what ECAHLI stands for — there is a place for you in this mission.
Every donation — no matter the size — helps fund housing, food, education, healthcare, and the relocation of families into a community designed for them to truly thrive. Not charity. Co-creation.
